Corinthia Hotel ESPA life

The ability to design complementary lighting solutions for the ESPA life flagship spa is a rare opportunity for Lighting Design International (LDI). This complementary lighting solution is both energy efficient and respectful of the original heritage of historic buildings.

Senior designer Ellie Greisen spent three years designing lighting concepts for the hotel lounge, ballroom, ball room, restaurant and ESPA life spa. The hotel's groundwater clinic should be the most complex part of the entire lighting project. The spa has four floors and an area of 3,300m. There is no natural light at all, so the spotlights here need to be controlled to the minimum illumination.

Design a lighting solution to match the different moods of the four floors of the independent design. The customer experience is the center of design, and the mood and atmosphere are the driving force behind interior design and lighting design.

To help customers and interior designers achieve their visual goals, LDI mainly chooses built-in LED lighting to create the right atmosphere. The choice of surface materials is mostly rich in fabrics such as kinon, rock, marble, etc. Lighting needs to complement these materials to highlight their richness.

In order to achieve special lighting goals, LDI has specified the use of built-in LED lights to create the right atmosphere. Because the choice of surface materials is mainly kinon with high reflection, this poses a challenge to hidden illumination sources. Through countless physical simulations and lighting tests, designers have confirmed to customers that their complex set of installation details is the key to success.

The lighting of the entire project emphasizes a wide range of artworks and sculptures, and the lighting also gives the designer the opportunity to create a focal point for the customer to move around in this space. The light illuminates the long, wide wavy wall, highlighting the wall mechanism and echoing the simple entrance escalator. The designer cleverly placed a small number of spotlights, and the lights hit the white sculptures, contrasting with the darkness of the room, which was particularly conspicuous.

The design of the four floors is to design different feelings. As you walk down the layers, the surface material is gradually darkened. Based on this, the designer concentrated the lights on the surface material, emphasizing the different moods on each floor. The spa features a lighting detail that hides the lights on the steps, from the first floor to the basement, and the exquisite marble staircase illuminates. The light adds to the richness of the stairs, while the reflective surface also gives the customer a sense of flow. The ingenious application of the diffuser hides the light source and softens the lighting.
