The ban on white orders to eliminate incandescent lamps into speculative LED lights excuses?

In November 2011, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Commerce and other ministries and commissions jointly issued the "Announcement on the gradual ban on the import and sale of ordinary lighting incandescent lamps." According to the announcement, from October 1, 2012, China will gradually ban the import and sale of ordinary lighting incandescent lamps in stages according to the power level.

What is certain is that in the near future, incandescent lamps will definitely withdraw from the historical arena. This not only indicates that human beings have bid farewell to the "Edison era", but also indicates that at the industrial level, energy-saving lamps and LED lamps will completely replace the former market share.

Regardless of energy conservation and emission reduction, industrial upgrading, economic growth, or the perspective of building an innovative country, Chinese people are more expecting LEDs to replace the era of energy-saving lamps. After all, if the replacement of incandescent lamps with energy-saving lamps is defined as the second revolution in the field of lighting, the replacement of energy-saving lamps with more high-quality LED lamps is also a trend, even the third revolution in the field of lighting.

LEDs replace energy-saving lamps into a trend

For a long time, China has been a major producer and consumer of lighting products, and its output of energy-saving lamps and incandescent lamps ranks first in the world. In 2010, the output of incandescent lamps and domestic sales were 3.85 billion and 1.07 billion respectively.

In the future, according to relevant policies, the roadmap for the phase-out of incandescent lamps in China is divided into five phases: from November 1, 2011 to September 30, 2012, the transition period will be banned from importing and selling 100 watts from October 1, 2012. The above general lighting incandescent lamps are banned from importing and selling ordinary lighting incandescent lamps of 60 watts and above from October 1, 2014. The period from October 1, 2015 to September 30, 2016 is the mid-term evaluation period, October 1, 2016. It is prohibited to import and sell ordinary lighting incandescent lamps of 15 watts or more, or adjust them according to the results of the mid-term evaluation.

According to this calculation, China's lighting electricity accounts for about 12% of the total electricity consumption of the whole society. And if we replace all of the 1.4 billion incandescent lamps in use in China with energy-saving lamps, we can save 48 billion kWh per year, equivalent to reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 48 million tons per year. The output value of the lighting and electrical industry will increase by about 8 billion yuan and the number of jobs will increase by 15,000.

Compared with incandescent lamps, energy-saving lamps have the advantages of compact structure, long life (6-10 times that of incandescent lamps), high luminous efficiency (more than 80% energy saving of incandescent lamps), but also mercury pollution and large power consumption. (relative to LED lights), short life (relative to LED lights) and other drawbacks.

However, compared with energy-saving lamps, LEDs are not only more energy-efficient, long-lived, and pollution-free, but also occupy an advantage in high-speed working conditions and rich colors. Its only industry bottleneck comes from the higher initial purchase cost.

Perhaps because of this, people are replacing the energy-saving lamps with LED lamps as an inevitable trend while replacing incandescent lamps with energy-saving lamps.

According to the "12th Five-Year Plan for Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection Industry Development" issued by the State Council, in the future, China will gradually promote semiconductor lighting products (LED). By 2015, semiconductor lighting products will have a market share of about 20% in general lighting products, LCD backlights. More than 70%, landscape decoration products reach more than 80%, semiconductor lighting industry output value reached 450 billion yuan, annual energy saving 60 billion kwh, forming an internationally competitive semiconductor lighting industry.

China's LED still faces problems to be solved

The beautiful vision does not conceal the cruel reality. As far as the A-share LED sector is not warm, China's LEDs still face many difficult problems to be solved in the capital market or industry.

From the perspective of the industry, Zhang Yulin, research director of CIC's consulting industry, once pointed out that the LED lamp market has just started and the development road is bound to be flat. On the one hand, although the policy is favorable, however, in view of the current chaotic market situation in China, the lack of leading, core technology, market awareness and price advantage of leading enterprises is not conducive to the development of the industry to some extent. On the other hand, at this stage, the international market economy is weak. The order quantity of LED lights in China is gradually decreasing, and the LED lighting that has lost the support of the international market is even thinner.

Wu Qingyi, the director of Sunshine Lighting, also said in an interview that LED lighting is not as good as energy-saving lamps in terms of cost performance. In addition, the export of domestically produced LED chips (the core components of LED lighting equipment) is subject to patent restrictions, and the technology is not relevant. Therefore, there are still many problems in China's LED industry that need to be broken. In the face of overseas markets, most Chinese companies still rely mainly on OEMs to create profits.

At the capital market level, people are less optimistic about the LED market that may break out. Guoxin Securities’ previous research report predicted that “General lighting will remain dominated by energy-saving lamps during 2011-2013”. On the contrary, LED lighting is still only a "non-mainstream." In this regard, a brokerage analyst also said that "eliminating incandescent lamps" only gave the funds an excuse to speculate on the LED concept, but the industry status can not give strong support.
