NVR and embedded NVR features and problems

As a representative product of the security video surveillance hard disk recorder in the network high-definition era, NVR solves the demand for high-definition video surveillance images by users and the industry. The most important feature of NVR is "networking, high-definition", which coincides with the rapid development of public security, transportation, finance and other fields in the process of "high-definition" video surveillance.

As a representative product of security HD network, NVR has the same problems as the entire security industry entering the network HD from analog SD. There is no uniform standard specification, poor compatibility between network devices, and limitations of HD storage network. And other issues. As the main force for connecting high-definition devices on the network, NVR will coexist with DVRs and hybrid DVRs for a long period of time. However, in terms of the development trend of security network, the popularization of NVRs will become mainstream, among which embedded The NVR will be the main force.

Embedded NVR function analysis

NVR back-end devices have different product forms, but their main core functions are the acquisition, storage and forwarding of network video and audio images, and provide corresponding management functions. At present, there are two major types of NVR products, software and hardware. The software NVR vendors provide users with software in the form of software. Users can install them on the corresponding PC or server. The hardware can be divided into PC-ba. Sed NVR and embedded NVR. PC-ba sed NVR adopts general-purpose PC, and the manufacturer carries out certain structural improvement to provide users with a set of software and hardware integration scheme; embedded NVR is a combination of dedicated hardware equipment and embedded operating system, which can be constructed according to user requirements. And the design, providing a wealth of hardware and software interfaces, closer to the actual needs of users. In addition, the embedded NVR inherits the convenient UI operation interface and operation habits of the traditional DVR, supports localized image preview and playback operations, and the embedded operating system does not cause the device to be unusable due to viruses or the like, or shuts down and restarts abnormally to ensure the system. High reliability and stability, so embedded NVR will be the main force in NVR products in the future.

Three major problems facing embedded NVR

1. NVR network device compatibility

The embedded NVR supports the access of network video servers, network cameras and network domes. The access methods mainly include vendor proprietary protocols, RTSP, ONVIF and PSIA protocols, especially the two-year standard ONVIF and PSIA protocols. The universal application has solved the problem that the previous manufacturers have different protocols and access difficulties to a certain extent. However, the current standard protocol definition is relatively incomplete, and can only meet the realization of some basic functions, and the understanding of the protocol by the developers of different manufacturers is not the same. In the actual application, there will still be many compatibility problems. In addition, the coding format and encapsulation format of the network coding equipment of different manufacturers may be different, and the compatibility is also increased to a certain extent. Therefore, how to better achieve the compatibility of network coding equipment of different manufacturers, and put forward higher requirements for equipment manufacturers.

2. Large-capacity access of NVR network equipment

With the continuous improvement of the performance of the embedded NVR hardware and network card and the continuous improvement of the coding performance of the network camera, the previous 720p resolution encoding requires a 3-4 Mbps code rate, and now only 2 Mbps is required. Both of these aspects are constantly promoting the increase of the number of embedded NVR access channels. Many manufacturers have produced 64 or even higher number of products, and the network throughput can reach more than 400Mbps, ensuring network coding equipment access. At the same time as the local real-time preview, you can connect to the platform for remote preview, playback and management.

3, NVR storage security

Network video surveillance equipment ensures that real-time monitoring while video storage also plays a very important role. The embedded NVR continues the traditional DVR disk pre-allocation technology, hard disk SMART warning technology, hard disk group management, channel quota setting, redundant recording, important video file protection and other mechanisms, while improving data security, it can provide more for practical applications. Flexible configuration and management mechanisms. In addition, according to the characteristics of the embedded NVR collecting audio and video images through the network, the data storage security is put forward higher requirements. At this time, RAID, ANR and N+1 hot standby technologies are applied to the embedded NVR device.

3.1 RAID (short for Redundant Array of Independent Disks)

RAID is a combination of multiple independent physical hard disks in different ways to form a logical hard disk. It can be configured with RAID 0/1/5/10 and other types of array redundancy, supporting array reconstruction and array one-button configuration. Improve local storage reliability. In the past, RAID technology was implemented on the embedded NVR by extending the hard RAID mode of the RAID card. This method not only increases the hardware cost of the device, but also the RAID card is usually provided by a third-party manufacturer, which will inevitably affect the embedded NVR. Compatibility and stability between RAID cards and RAID cards, so the original system based on embedded NVR is now based on software development to implement RAID function, commonly known as soft RAID, which not only solves the problem of hard RAID application on embedded NVR. And it can provide more convenient operation and maintenance methods, and will gradually replace the application of hard RAID on embedded NVR.

3.2 ANR (short for Automatic Network Replenishment Technology)

The ANR is a technology that combines network coding equipment local storage and NVR network storage. The NVR works on the network, but the complexity of the network bearer service is relatively high. It is inevitable that some unstable conditions will occur, resulting in a short network disconnection between the NVR and the IPC. At this time, the NVR and front-end network supporting the ANR technology The encoding device automatically stores the video in the front-end device. After the network is restored, the NVR resumes recording and migrates the video data stored in the front-end device to the NVR to ensure the integrity of the NVR recording and improve the security of the network storage.

3.3 N+1

The N+1 hot standby system is used to place a hot standby NVR device in the NVR storage network. When a working NVR is abnormally offline, the hot standby NVR automatically takes over the IP channel of the abnormal device for recording. When the working NVR fails, The hot standby NVR relocates the video to the original working NVR. After the relocation is completed, the hot standby NVR is restored to the idle state. The hot standby NVR can continue to provide hot standby for other NVRs in the network to ensure the stability and security of the network storage.
