Atmel announced that the company's latest two maXTouch touchscreen controllers have been certified for automotive applications, further enriching its diverse automotive portfolio. The mXT1188S is optimized for touch screens up to 12", and the mXT1664S is ideal for up to 14" touch screens.
Both touch screen controllers are optimized for single-layer, unshielded sensor designs in automotive center consoles, navigation systems, wireless interfaces, and rear seat entertainment systems. The single-layer, unmasked sensor design eliminates the need for an extra screen layer, providing higher light transmission, reducing power consumption and reducing the total system cost of the manufacturer. These maXTouch controllers are AEC-Q100 compliant and maintain high reliability in harsh environments. In addition, these controllers support glove-operated operation and better moisture resistance, which are key requirements for automotive touch screens.
Atmel's maXTouch controller delivers a superior user experience with excellent touch performance, multi-touch support, faster response, more precise touch, more powerful operation and lower power consumption. To speed design, Atmel also released the EVK-MXT1664SAT-A evaluation kit, which includes an mXT1664S touch screen controller that docks a 10.1-inch sensor (with an aspect ratio of 16:9).
Atmel now offers samples of the mXT1664S-A and mXT1188S-A controllers in the LQFP144 package. Samples of controllers in PPAP packages will be released in June 2014 and will begin mass production in July 2014.
