Not only is Google Tesla's automatic driving technology strong?

All major automakers believe that autonomous driving technology is the next revolutionary product in the automotive industry, so almost all car companies around the world are doing research and development in this area. How has their project been recently, is there any breakthrough? We are here to make an inventory of these companies.

Google

The first one still had to mention Google. It has been three years since they first announced the development of self-driving cars in 2012. In the past three years, their driverless cars have started from the initial modification of a Prius, and now use their own developed "Google Car" to complete the 1 million-mile auto-driving mileage, which is still very fast.

Regarding the future, Google hopes to achieve legal driving of self-driving cars by 2020. At the same time, they also said that they are more likely to become a supplier of autonomous driving technology than to become a car manufacturer.

Uber

I was a little surprised when I first heard about Uber’s autopilot project in April this year. Even the "taxis" companies in the tertiary industry have to enter the auto industry. This is too motivated. I really don't want to be a general soldier. And when Uber said that after the popularity of autonomous vehicles, the company can save a lot of the driver's labor costs, it all suddenly became clear.

Unlike Google and major automakers, Uber has a very strong talent and technology accumulation. So they chose to work with major universities to develop projects, such as Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Arizona, and Uber and the latter set up a research and development center.

About Uber's autopilot project, the current news is much less than Google's. They have not announced the progress of the project, and even the size of the R&D team has not been announced.

Tesla

Tesla's research on driverless technology is not surprising. After all, Elon Musk is a geek. Compared to his super high-speed rail project, Tesla has no reason to start the project of "automatic driving".

In fact, on the vehicles currently sold by Tesla, sensors for automatic driving are installed. After the relevant technology is mature, users only need to carry out a software upgrade to achieve automatic driving. Now some models of Tesla have already achieved the function of automatic driving at high speed, but on the city road, the driver is required to control the vehicle.

Tesla also hinted that it is possible to work with Google to develop an automated driving program, which is in line with Google's appeal: Google wants to become a technology supplier rather than becoming a car manufacturer. However, the news in this regard is indeed not much, so it is impossible to make a conclusion.

Honda

Honda is another company that has demonstrated autopilot technology and they have spent a lot of time researching the safety and driving skills of self-driving cars. Honda’s self-driving cars are now similar to the ones Google uses to capture streetscapes. A large sensor is mounted on the roof, and the data captured by the sensor and camera is combined with GPS to analyze the current vehicle driving conditions.

Obviously this autopilot test car is not what it was when it was last sold. They invited some reporters to experience autonomous driving. After the experience, the reporter said that the actual performance of this self-driving car in traffic has exceeded that of some less skilled drivers.

Mercedes

Mercedes-Benz's most interesting self-driving car is the cool concept car called "F 015".

Every design of this car reflects the vision of the future car, such as the very luxurious interior, providing ample space for people to work and rest in the car. The two seats in the front of the vehicle can be turned back, allowing passengers in the car to talk more freely.

The technology behind this car is very rich, so Mercedes-Benz is more inclined to call this car a "research car" instead of a "concept car." They used a brand new model to develop their autonomous driving technology. Mercedes-Benz said that they have made very significant progress in research and development. However, the feedback from the car on a rainy day is not very good. At present, this car is still in the concept car stage.

BMW

In the process of developing automatic driving technology, many companies are seeking cooperation partners to develop together, BMW chose Baidu. Baidu plans to launch a self-driving car this year.

BMW and Baidu announced their first cooperation in April this year. The goal of the cooperation between the two companies is to launch a self-driving car in China. This car will be used to collect road data usage.

Audi

Another car factory that is researching autonomous cars. At the end of last year, Audi announced that they hope to sell vehicles with autonomous driving functions in 2016. So sometime next year, we should be able to see Audi's self-driving car.

Now Audi is testing and improving their automated driving systems with A7.

Delphi

Parts supplier Delphi is also constantly watching the development of autonomous driving technology, and not just what autonomous cars should do. At present, Delphi has made rapid progress in autonomous driving. In fact, their self-driving car finished a 3,400-mile trip across the United States, from San Francisco to New York.

Like Google, Delphi also tested their self-driving cars on the streets of San Francisco. The products of the two companies also met on the road. It has been reported that two self-driving cars have interacted on the road in a very safe manner.

apple

At present, we have not seen the models independently developed by Apple, although the "Titan" plan has long been passed by the outside world. There is also news that Apple has built a team of top engineers and tested it in a closed venue. Some sources said that Apple will release a pure electric car before driving a car. And what the final result is, we can only wait for time to give us the final answer.
