Japan's IDEC company developed a new LED packaging process

Japan's IDEC Corporation (IDEC Co., Ltd.) has developed a new manufacturing process that can achieve stable quality and simplify processes, and can greatly improve the efficiency of work in LED packaging.

The new manufacturing process is applied to a white LED module with a blue LED element and a yellow phosphor. The gel-like silicone resin sheet containing the phosphor is covered on the LED element to heat the LED element, and the LED element can be packaged. Compared with the manufacturing method in which the liquid resin is packaged, the time required for the packaging process can be shortened to 1/9.

The new manufacturing method improves the previous resin packaging method by covering the resin sheet with the resin sheet and heating it to about 150 degrees Celsius. After 40 minutes, the sheet is hardened to complete the package. In the past, the method of completing the package by pouring required 6 hours. In the new manufacturing method, since the sheet is gel-like, the phosphor does not precipitate, and the quality unevenness in the packaging process is greatly reduced. And production equipment is expected to be greatly simplified.

IDEC has now concentrated the production of white LED modules for lighting at the Hamamatsu plant and plans to replace all modules with new ones in 2013.
