Gartner: Global Mobile Phone Sales Increase 19% in the First Quarter

Market research company Gartner announced today the latest global mobile phone market research report, said that in the first quarter sales from the lowest-end mobile phones to smart phones have increased, the average growth rate of 19%.

Gartner analyst Robert Cozza said that in the first quarter, smartphone sales accounted for 23.6% of the global mobile phone market, an increase of 85% year-on-year, of which Apple and Google are big winners.

From the perspective of mobile phone manufacturers, Nokia's mobile phone sales volume in the first quarter was 107.6 million units, which accounted for 25% of the global market, still occupying the top spot; Nokia's mobile phone sales volume was 110.1 million units in the same period last year. The market share is 30.6%. Samsung ranked second, with a market share of 16%, down from 18% in the same period of last year; LG third, with a share of 5.6%, 7.6% in the same period last year; Apple fourth, with a share of 3.9% , higher than the 2.3% in the same period last year; RIM fifth, the share of 3%, and the same period last year.

According to the operating system, Google Android accounted for 36% of smartphone sales in the first quarter, which was a three-fold increase from the same period of last year; Symbian’s share was 27%, which was lower than 44% in the same period of last year; Apple’s iOS accounted for 16.8%, slightly higher than 15.3% in the same period of last year; Windows Phone's share was 3.6%, lower than 6.8% in the same period of last year. Gartner reiterated his previous view that the partnership between Microsoft and Nokia will "accelerate the momentum of Windows Phone."
