Apple's Tablet PC market share will still exceed 70% this year

A report released by the United States International Data Corporation (IDC) on the 10th predicts that the competition for tablet PCs will become more intense in 2011. Nevertheless, Apple Inc. in the US can still maintain a market share of 70% to 80% this year.

Statistics show that in the fourth quarter of last year, the global shipment of tablet PCs reached 10.1 million units, 2.2 times the previous quarter. Apple’s flagship product, iPad, had a 73% market share in the quarter, ranking first. South Korea's Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. has a 17% market share.

The report predicts that tablet PC shipments in 2011 are expected to reach 50 million units. Although Samsung Electronics and Motorola have successively launched new products for tablet PCs, they lack price competitiveness compared with Apple's iPad. This year, the tablet PC market will continue to show Apple’s monopoly on the world.

Apple will sell iPad2 in the United States on the 11th and iPad2 in Japan on the 25th. The iPad2 is lighter than the first-generation iPad and has a built-in lens. The minimum selling price is $499.
