Microsoft lowers Surface price by up to 30%

Microsoft Sunday reduced the SurfaceRT price by a minimum of 30% because the company hopes to change the weak sales of this self-produced tablet.

The software giant's entry-level 32GB model, with no keyboard, dropped from 499 US dollars to 349 US dollars, while the price of the 64GB model also dropped by 150 US dollars. Now it sells for 499 US dollars, and the price reduction rate reaches 25%.

In the first few weeks of this price reduction, Microsoft decided to reduce the price of its educational Surface RT for schools and universities in the two months of this summer. According to the project, Surface RT without a keyboard sells for as low as $199.

Prior to this, Microsoft had significantly reduced the selling price of Surface RT and Surface Pro devices for those attending some of its recent conferences. Microsoft also tried giving free shells in May to stimulate Surface RT sales.

The Surface RT tablet was introduced a year ago and its sales have been very weak. In March of this year, Bloomberg reported that Microsoft may only sell a total of about 1.5 million Surface tablets. According to Bloomberg, one million of them are RT versions, which is about half of what Microsoft originally expected.
