Broadcom Introduces Next Generation HomePlug Device to Promote Overall Home Network Connection

Beijing, June 13, 2013 -Broadcom Corporation (Nasdaq: BRCM), a global leader in innovative solutions for wired and wireless communications semiconductors, announced the launch of the industry ’s first HomePlug AV2® device series The physical layer transmission rate of up to 1.5 Gbps is realized on the household electrical lines. This carrier-grade product series has a high price-performance ratio, which can realize the simultaneous playback of high-definition TVs in multiple rooms in the home, low-latency real-time online 3D games, and Internet coverage of the entire home. Today, Broadcom ’s complete adaptive home network solution product line adds two new PLC SoCs that integrate Wi-Fi, set-top boxes, gateways, and TV platforms to provide superior home Internet coverage and reliability. "Broadcom's new HomePlug AV2 provides a next-generation power line communication solution that can provide a more reliable and fast Internet connection for the entire family, no matter how remote the location is, how complex the building structure is." Broadcom Broadband Operator Access Deputy President and General Manager Greg Fische said, "Our new devices enable global operators and consumer electronics manufacturing companies to provide consumers with superior voice, video, data services and products that can cover the entire family."

"Due to its high level of performance and reliability, we chose Broadcom's HomePlug AV2 device to achieve our next-generation power line adapter." Chen Ping, Chief Technology Officer of D-Link, said, "Broadcom's new products combined with our industry leading Innovative technologies, such as free use of mydlink cloud services and zero configuration features, allow us to provide our customers with advanced and convenient network solutions that support network video, online games, high-fidelity audio, and require high data processing capabilities throughout the home Of other applications. "

Compared with the previous generation standard, HomePlug AV2 uses a number of advanced technologies to achieve a PHY transmission rate of 1.5Gbps (HomePlug AV is 200Mbps), and provides significantly enhanced network coverage throughout the home. The frequency band of HomePlug AV2 is extended to 86MHz (HomePlug AV is 30 MHz). In addition, HomePlug AV2 also introduces multiple input multiple output (MIMO) technology-this technology has been adopted in Broadcom's 802.11n and 802.11ac 5G WiFi solutions. Similar to using multiple Wi-Fi antennas, HomePlug AV2's MIMO technology uses three wires on a typical power outlet to send more data through different paths simultaneously.

These advancements have made power line communication a powerful and easy-to-implement home network option that can be achieved by simply using the existing power outlets in the home. In addition, Broadcom ’s HomePlug AV2 devices are fully compatible with previous generations of HomePlug AV devices and HomePlug Green PHY devices for smart energy applications. Compatibility with widely adopted power line communication standards ensures that global telecommunications operators and home consumers can easily install and enjoy HomePlug AV2 certified products.

About HomePlug AV2

Compared with HomePlug AV, HomePlug AV2 has many new features, greatly improving throughput and network coverage. New PHY features include MIMO, wider frequency bands, and more efficient wireless signal propagation. HomePlug AV2 MIMO technology makes full use of the third line on the home power socket, or ground line, and uses it in combination with another line or neutral line to support the transmission of a second independent signal and improve the signal transmission capability. HomePlug AV2 has two transmitters and two receivers, which improves the signal transmission performance of a single pair (SISO) PLC by up to double. By using beamforming technology on channels with poor performance, MIMO performance is greatly improved. In the absence of a ground wire, the default mode of the device is SISO. HomePlug AV2 also extends the frequency band from HomePlug AV 1.8-30 MHz to 1.8-86 MHz, introducing new MAC layer functions, including a power-saving mode that can greatly improve efficiency. Through the implementation of a number of new technologies, HomePlug AV2 can provide a PHY transmission rate of 1.5 Gbps when using MIMO technology and 750 Mbps when using SISO technology.

About nVoy Technology 2

nVoy network technology allows us to use Wi-Fi, HomePlug, MoCA and / or Ethernet to form a hybrid network. The functions of the nVoy network include advanced diagnostic functions supported locally or remotely supported using TR-069, topology discovery, simplified security settings, and automatic configuration of Wi-Fi access points and link indicators. In addition, consumers will benefit from the consistent certification process of the nVoy network, simplifying the operation of using wired and wireless devices to build a hybrid home network. While providing these functions for new devices, nVoy Network also maintains backward interoperability for HomePlug, Wi-Fi, MoCA, and Ethernet devices that are already widely used in consumer homes.
